Our Favorite Resources for Children’s Book Authors

As a children’s book author, it is important to have access to valuable resources that can help you maximize your impact and ensure the success of your book launch. With that in mind, we have curated a list of our favorite resources for children’s book authors that we believe will be beneficial for you.

  1. Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)

The SCBWI is an international organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the work of children’s book writers and illustrators. They provide valuable resources such as online courses, webinars, conferences, and networking opportunities to connect with other authors in the industry. Joining this community can help you stay updated on the latest trends in the market and gain valuable insights into the publishing world.

  1. Children’s Book Mastery

Children’s Book Mastery, a longtime sponsor of the Women in Publishing Summit, is on a mission to assist children’s book authors to win on every step of the journey, from writing, through publishing, through promotion and marketing. They have assisted many authors to do exactly that through online trainings, like our Kid’s VIP Days; coaching; and the annual Children’s Book Mastery conference.

  1. ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid is a platform that offers a world-class grammar checking AND style checking, so your writing – be it business writing, creative writing, academic writing or anything else – follows the rules for what “good writing” looks like. ProWritingAid then goes beyond that by offering in-depth reporting to help you understand how you write.

  1. First Editing

FirstEditing is a one-stop shop to connect writers with editors. Rather than needing to search out your own editor on the dozens of freelance websites out there, First Editing makes hiring the right person for your work simple.

But what really sets this company apart is that every editor on the team has been vetted – they’ve got the professional credentials, AND they can back it up. So you’re not just getting a self-proclaimed “expert,” but someone who’s been proven and screened to be an effective industry professional.

  1. MCRL

MCRL Overseas Group prints all sorts of books from cookbooks to comic books, art and photography books, hardcover and paperback novels, children’s books, board books, yearbooks and more.

Since 2004 they’ve worked with independent authors, self-publishers and established publishing houses to print top-quality, competitively priced books.

  1. Publisher Rocket

Publisher Rocket is a must-have resource for self-published authors looking to boost their sales on Amazon. This software helps you discover profitable keywords for your book’s metadata which can improve its visibility on Amazon’s search engine results page (SERP). Additionally, it provides  data on your competitors’ book sales and rankings, allowing you to make informed decisions about your marketing strategy. Publisher Rocket will help get your book in front of more Amazon people. Rocket gives real data that shows exactly what Amazon book buyers type into Amazon and how many people search for these things.

  1. BookFunnel

BookFunnel does a few different things that, when taken together, can help transform your author email list AND your sales. It gives you a place to send readers to check out an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of your book. BookFunnel lets you create an all-in one sales landing page that you can customize with links to buy on Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and Kobo – AND with the ability to also link directly to your direct-sales website, to maximize your book profits. BookFunnel connects you with other authors to share links to free copies of your book or even to the sales pages for your book through their special “group promotions.”
