How do I file my copyright for my book?
How to file your copyright is probably something that has you a bit concerned. It seems intimidating, but good news! This is really not a difficult process and takes me about 10 minutes, as long as you have all the information in order.
You’ll need a couple of things:
- Your ISBN
- A little knowledge of what it is they are asking you for. 🙂
The other information is your personal information.
You’ll need to go to the Electronic Copyright Office and create an account, which is very easy.
Then, it’s just a matter of working through each screen.
There is ONE screen that causes some confusion for people. On the publication/completion screen, there is a box that asks for your International Standard Number Type. Then there is a dropdown box. In most cases, you should choose ISBN. (If you need something different you would probably be aware of that fact.) Then you’ll enter your ISBN number in the International Standard Number box below.
Here is a short tutorial that will guide you through all of the steps of the process. It’s a short video but should answer any questions you have on the different screens.
