What You Need to Know About Book Awards
As an author, I’m always looking for low cost marketing opportunities. If book awards are not part of your marketing strategy, you should really consider adding them! Book awards result in lots of publicity and booksellers and librarians take note of winners.
As a publisher, I regularly submit our books to book award programs, and I recommend that my coaching clients do as well.
You should be applying to awards too, because it’s GREAT PUBLICITY for finalists and winners.
The cool thing about book awards programs is that they are happening throughout the year. One of my favorite programs recently opened for submissions – the Book Excellence Awards Program. (Submission deadline April 30, 2019, but why wait???)
I submitted my book, Ditch The Fear and Just Write It, to the 2018 Book Excellence Awards, and won! What did I get as the winner? First of all, I saw an uptick in sales of my book. That was a huge benefit.
Besides that, BEA has a great promo machine going. They featured me and my book as a Success Story on their website. Of course, they also listed me on their 2018 Winners Page and their Author Showcase. (If you visit those pages, you’ll also see Kat Biggie Press author Lindsay Gibson!) I also got this prize package of over $2500 of training and products that helped me promote my award and learn a bit more about marketing. My only regret is that I didn’t order some stickers to proudly put on my books! Next time!
